"Oooh, you have cupcakes!"
"Yeah, we’re trying out a new baker. Want to try it out?"
Well, sure! Who wouldn’t want to try out a new cupcake? Especially a chocolate cinnamon one? Talk about an almost perfect combination for a coffeehouse called "El Diablo", right? Well… mostly.
The cake was dry and left an almost powdery, dusty feel to my mouth with very little flavor. It was chocolate… mostly. At a guess, I’d suppose that they were trying for something close to Ibarra chocolate, but it was really too light to be noticed.
Especially under the dense, rich, almost fudgy frosting. This is where the flavor really came through, strong enough to linger in the mouth for a goodly long while after swallowing it down.
Taken together, the taste was divine (or is that devilish?) but the dichotomy in textures was really disappointing. Here’s hoping this baker improves because the combination was really unique.
